Dear friends and colleagues,

In a joint venture between the ESSFN and the EANS and under the guidance of Jean Regis we are organising a basic training course for stereotactic radiosurgery in Marseille. In its initial format the course has been planned and will be carried out as hands-on training. In times of Covid-19 however, we have decided to make all presentations available on-line as downloads.  Online participation details will be outlined soon.

The course will provide a basic summary of clinical radiosurgical indications and will also provide first insight into the practical details of treatment planning techniques. Limitations of radiosurgery and areas of development and cooperation will be outlined.

The course is part of our initiative to organise a specified clinical and theoretical training for stereotactic radiosurgery ultimately resulting in a Certificate of Additional Competence in Stereotactic Radiosurgery.

Currently the basics of radiosurgery are neither subject of training for neurosurgeons nor for radiation oncologists. Much of our competence is based on empirical knowledge and on a large number of studies, which are to be summarised and made common knowledge. We are aware of our tremendous opportunity to create and spread comprehensive state-of-the-art data and practical experience in our field.

Our goal should be the further integration of stereotactic neuro-radiosurgery into classical neurosurgery, as both are complementary.

I hope to see you in Marseille or joining us online!

Best regards,

Prof  Bodo Lippitz
Chairman of the Section of Radiosurgery
of the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies (EANS)
