Dear colleagues,

The Neurocore-LAPS (Lumbar Approaches & Procedures for Spinal Stenosis) project aims to collect and analyze current practices and preferences in lumbar techniques for the management of
spinal stenosis.

This initiative seeks to map the diversity of surgical approaches used worldwide and to identify shared standards and trends that can inform future consensus and best-practice recommendations.
The survey should take approximately 10–15 minutes to complete.

Our working group has successfully conducted similar collaborative projects, including:
- The iMMM (intracranial Multimodal Monitoring) consensus published in Critical Care (2024)
- The SENSED (Spine Endoscopic Surgery Establishment for Disc Disease) consensus published in Brain and Spine (2025)

All participants who complete the survey will be included as co-authors under group authorship.

Contributors who take part in data analysis or manuscript writing will be acknowledged with privileged authorship positions, as discussed collegially.

This project is about unusual/atypical infections of the CNS, with an emphasis on infections occurring in Neurosurgical wards. This study has been going on for at least 4.5 years now at our department (Szeged - Hungary), and we are at the edge of summarizing our findings and publishing them.
This survey particularly is about CNS infections caused by Clostridium spp. , more specifically Clostridium perfringens. There have been cases of C.perfringens reported in the literature but they are not detailed and just a few of them exist. In this survey we would like to find out about the experiences of our dear colleagues all over Europe about such infectious cases and use them in our study. These data will be of great value and importance for our study.

Your participation and help is greatly appreciated.

You can access the survey here using the 🔗 👇🏽
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/KBDX3KM

Dr. Arad Tahaei
Consultant Neurosurgeon - Assistant lecturer
Department of Neurosurgery
University of Szeged - Hungary

We would value your participation in our survey on neurosurgeons‘ trust towards synthetic imaging. Synthetic imaging methods, such as image modality conversion and synthetic tomography, are currently being developed and validated and have clear potential
to aid neurosurgical patients. However, any clinical implementation would require a certain level of trust from both clinicians and patients regarding these synthetic images. The aim of this study is to assess the current attitude of neurosurgeons
toward synthetically generated images of the brain and spine for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.

Thank you for your time,

Management on incidental radiological findings in pediatric brain

a consensus of experts from EANS Section of Pediatric Neurosurgery

Dear colleagues!

With the improved availability of radiological investigations such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in high- and middle-income countries, we witness an increasing number of referrals based on incidental findings in pediatric brain imaging. There is currently no consensus among neurosurgeons as to the appropriate management of these findings. Therefore, we aim to reach a consensus among neurosurgeons organized in the Section of Pediatric Neurosurgery, the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies (EANS), and the European Society of Pediatric Neurosurgery (ESPN), as well as all other individual members of EANS.

First, we want to perform a survey on current practice. We would therefore kindly ask you to answer the questions below. All information provided will be handled confidentially.

In the next step, we will organize a joint consensus meeting during the next EANS congress in October this year and discuss the findings, in order to reach a consensus, wherever possible. Results from the survey and consensus – if reached – will be also the subject of an article that we intend to get published in Brain and Spine, the official journal of EANS.

The study is aimed at understanding the global burden and spectrum of infectious disease on surgical services and their outcomes. There are two components, a 60-day prospective cohort study to gather data on surgical consultations and procedures and a retrospective one-year cohort at selected sites to analyse seasonal variations. By identifying trends and key factors, this project seeks to provide comprehensive data on the surgical management and outcomes of CNS infections, highlighting regional differences and identifying areas for improvement. Despite the known global burden of infectious diseases, little is known about how this affects neurosurgical services. The findings will inform strategies to enhance surgical care and resource allocation, ultimately aiming to reduce morbidity and mortality associated with CNS infections globally. Your collaboration is essential to advancing this important field of research. Centres recruiting patients will be included as co-authors. The study is being run under the guidance of the NIHR ABSI group, co-led by Professor Tony Figaji (Cape Town) and Prof Peter Hutchinson (Cambridge).

Disclaimer - University of Cape Town This email is subject to UCT policies and email disclaimer published on our website at https://www.uct.ac.za/main/email-disclaimer or obtainable from +27 21 650 9111.

Mentorship has long been heralded as a cornerstone of medical education and professional development, echoing the timeless wisdom embedded within the Hippocratic Oath that equates mentors to parents, thus recognizing their pivotal role in guiding and shaping the next generation of physicians. However, in today's dynamic healthcare landscape, mentorship seems to have faded, prompting a critical examination of its current state.

This survey aims to delve into the nuances of mentorship within the field of neurosurgery, shedding light on both its enduring significance and the contemporary challenges that may hinder its full realization. Through this exploration, we seek to gain insights that can inform strategies to optimize mentorship practices.

We warmly invite you to take part in our survey, with the assurance that your responses will remain completely anonymous and confidential. Answering all questions is optional and by submitting this form, you are providing your implied consent and confirming that you are at least 18 years old.

Thank you for participating in this survey!

Maria Karampouga, MD and Mary Murphy, MD,

on behalf of the “GROWING” research group

Survey and potential trial on controversies in Surgical Treatment of Glioblastoma

Dear colleagues,

We would like to invite you to participate in a survey developed by Johnny Duerinck (Belgium), Asgeir Jakola (Sweden) and Alireza Mansouri (US) which aims to describe neurosurgeons' habits in glioblastoma resection, and opinions on supramarginal resection, partial resection or biopsy and treating patients with multifocal disease. If there is substantial equipoise, there may be a role for analyzing controversial areas further through randomized trials. As such, this survey will also explore feasibility of a large prospective randomized trial. In case you are interested in participating in these efforts to improve quality of evidence in surgical approaches to GBM, you can leave your email address at the end of the survey so the authors can contact you for further development of the trial.

Please take a few minutes and fill out the questionnaire (see below for the link & QR code)!

Matthias Simon, Chair, for the EANS Tumour Section

Click here to participate to the survey

Or you can scan the QR code below
